The story, straight
A gadget needs more than a clever drawing. Its case must hold its parts, its circuit board must connect them, and its software must tell them what to do.
Everything also has to fit together outside a computer screen. Physics does not accept a persuasive paragraph.
OpenAI says 2 staff members used GPT-6 Astra to design a small device for talking to Codex, its coding assistant. In OpenAI's account, Astra handled the enclosure, electronic component selection and connections, and the software, without direct human edits to the designs.
OpenAI says the design work took under a week. A contract manufacturer then built a small batch of prototypes in under a month.
Those are different clocks: designing something is not the same as manufacturing it.
The catch is in OpenAI's own account: several review and revision rounds were needed because Astra did not consistently account for production limits, the tiny size differences parts must allow, or assembly details.
Our imaginary assembly department is Lil'meme sitting on the lid. His engineering qualification is being heavier than the instruction manual.
This is OpenAI describing its own experiment, not independent proof of factory-ready engineering. It describes a test device, not a product launch, and gives no price or launch date.
The useful possibility is faster experimentation. The protective lesson is simpler: a convincing design still needs physical checks.
The screws do not care how intelligent the presentation was.
Repost for everyone whose final assembly step is denial.
Hardships are coming. I, the Big Dreamer, created this token to help the people.
I truly do see this token going up in value. Ride the rocket with me and let's see where the next 24 months take us.
