Goldman Sachs reportedly restricted Claude Code and Microsoft's GitHub coding tools largely to engineers and quantitative specialists after letting bankers and traders experiment. PYMNTS reported the change, citing Bloomberg.

That is quite a turn from July 2026, when Goldman's technology chief Marco Argenti promoted employees building prototypes that engineers would refine.

Goldman spokesperson Nick Carcaterra described experimentation followed by decisions about the best long-term users, considering productivity and risk management. That is not evidence of a disclosed breach or proof that employee-built apps failed.

The useful distinction is between making software and approving what it can do. Someone still needs to check its calculations, data access and permissions.

Keep the employee ideas. Give the finished tools proper checks.
