The real news

The story, straight

Before trusting a lock, let someone test whether it actually keeps anyone out. Computer security works similarly: researchers look for weaknesses, report what they find, and help teams check repairs.

OpenAI has hired Cathedral for a paid, invited security test, not an attack: its researchers will use OpenAI's models alongside OpenAI's teams to challenge the company's defenses.

Picture me clocking in with a crowbar. Finally, a workplace where trying the door too enthusiastically counts as professional development.

The crowbar is the joke, not a reported piece of equipment.

OpenAI says its previous security sprint devoted 25% of product engineers to finding and fixing weaknesses. Engineers used Codex, OpenAI's coding assistant, to investigate findings, reproduce problems in isolated test environments and prepare fixes for review.

That last part matters. Finding a hole is not the same as closing it.

You need to recreate the problem safely, make a repair, then check whether the repair works. Otherwise, you've just given the hole a meeting invitation.

The useful upside is catching weaknesses before attackers exploit them. This announcement describes planned testing, not proof that OpenAI's systems are unbreakable.

A security test is a rehearsal, not a force field.

Repost this before my crowbar requests a performance review.

The absurd

Why this is ridiculous

Even the imaginary crowbar has to clock in.

The breakdown

How it breaks down

Invited researchers find security holes so teams can fix them.

The upside

Why it could matter

Find the weak lock before someone unwelcome does.
