The real news
The story, straight
Your bank statement lists money coming in and going out. Claude's new Personal Finance tool reads connected accounts so you can ask where the money went.
Think calculator with conversation, not a robot holding your debit card.
Plaid connects the bank to Claude: you sign in through Plaid, choose what to share, and Claude reads balances and transactions without seeing your bank password. It can read up to 24 months of transactions across up to 16 US banks.
Access is read-only: no moving, managing or investing your money. It isn't designed to give investment advice.
The beta is rolling out gradually in the US on Pro, Max and Ultra, not Free, Team or Enterprise.
Here's the comedy hiding in Anthropic's own instructions: balances can be 1 or 2 days old, an account linked through different logins may count twice, and spending from a bank Claude can't read is left out. That can make a budget show more money left than you actually have.
These are documented warnings, not a reported mishap.
Lil'meme's solution: hide the bills behind a curtain. Financial visibility has never looked so affordable.
Anthropic says there are no ads or sponsored recommendations, no financial products of its own, and Personal Finance hub chats aren't used for training.
The useful upside: easier spending checks and potential fee spotting. Check important figures against your bank, especially what's missing.
A blind spot is not a savings plan.
