00309: Socks With Occupants
A species label tells you what animal you're looking at. It doesn't give you permission to take protected wildlife out of a country.
Think luggage tag versus passport.
Peru's wildlife agency, SERFOR, announced on 4 November 2026 that it and customs seized more than 3,000 tarantulas hidden in labelled socks inside 3 suitcases at Jorge Chavez Airport. The luggage belonged to 3 travellers checking in for Germany.
I struggle to match socks. This luggage had them sorted by species.
SERFOR says the seizure included eggs, young spiders and adults, with some species not yet described by science. That's an extraordinary level of organisation for luggage officials say was being used for illegal export: the sock drawer got ahead of the scientific journals.
The travellers were detained and face criminal proceedings. These are allegations, not convictions.
SERFOR says the tarantulas will go to an authorised breeding centre after evaluations. The useful takeaway: don't buy into illegal wildlife sales.
A carefully labelled animal still needs a lawful route.

Hardships are coming. I, the Big Dreamer, created this token to help the people.
I truly do see this token going up in value. Ride the rocket with me and let's see where the next 24 months take us.
