The real news

The story, straight

A subway train doesn't move because someone on the platform waves at it. That's the joke.

The harder question is who deserves credit when a city improves.

According to IBTimes UK on 4 November 2026, JD Vance shared a graphic crediting the Trump administration with achievements in New York. Zohran Mamdani replied with a 9-second video and no caption.

The clip shows creator Olly Bee in a high-visibility vest, pretending to slow a subway train, open its automatic doors and send it away. Bee originally posted it in December 2025.

It wasn't filmed for this exchange.

Users read Mamdani's reply as mocking someone taking credit for work happening without their involvement. That interpretation is not an explanation Mamdani supplied: he offered none.

Our version puts Lil'meme on the platform, demanding a pension for opening doors he never touched. Apparently the retirement plan runs on gestures too.

The distinction matters. An improvement happening while an administration is in office doesn't, by itself, show which decisions caused it.

You need evidence connecting the work to the result.

The article also describes a user-generated Community Note questioning the graphic's attribution of several figures. That isn't an official fact-check, and it doesn't establish that the federal government contributed nothing.

The useful takeaway: ask what changed, who did the work and what evidence connects them. A confident wave isn't a job description.

Repost this before I claim credit for your train arriving.

The absurd

Why this is ridiculous

Users read it as mocking borrowed credit.

The breakdown

How it breaks down

Pretending to move a train doesn't make you its driver.

The upside

Why it could matter

Ask what someone actually did before applauding.
