The real news

The story, straight

Bitcoin is digital money recorded on a shared public ledger. A payment can also carry a short public note.

Think cash with a sticky note, except strangers can read it and the postage costs money.

Now strangers are using that feature to contact the Binance thief. The internet has apparently installed a tipping screen on a burglary.

According to CoinDesk's November 2, 2026 wallet analysis, 19 wallets hold 18,270 stolen bitcoin that had not moved since October 29. Tiny payments keep arriving with messages attached.

A sender repeated “Help me bro.” across all 19 wallets in 3 rounds, spending about $46 plus fees. None of the messages received a reply.

That's not customer service. That's paying to join the burglar's mailing list.

The inbox also attracted a token pitch from a self-described crypto influencer and messages directing the attacker to a lookalike THORChain swap page. A swap service exchanges cryptocurrencies; a convincing-looking imitation is not proof that a site is safe.

We aren't sharing that address.

Meanwhile, CoinDesk reports that on November 1 the attacker began exchanging 970,522 stolen Solana tokens, worth about $96 million, for bitcoin through Relay, a service for moving funds between crypto networks. Changing the getaway car doesn't return the luggage.

The useful lesson: public records let people inspect these messages, but public visibility doesn't make a message trustworthy. Don't follow unsolicited financial links, and don't mistake access to a thief's inbox for access to their money.

Repost this before the burglar adds a suggested gratuity.

The absurd

Why this is ridiculous

Paying the burglar to hear your pitch.

The breakdown

How it breaks down

Bitcoin payments can carry public notes, like cash with sticky notes.

The upside

Why it could matter

Ignore message links. A public note isn't trustworthy.
