A crypto exchange lets people trade digital money and holds assets for customers. Its online wallets help process withdrawals.
Think of a cash drawer connected to the internet: convenient, until somebody finds a way into it.
Binance says about $6.3 billion was stolen from its wallets. It promises to cover all losses.
TRM Labs says most of the stolen assets moved in about 20 minutes.
But moving money isn't the same as getting away with it.
Stablecoins are digital tokens designed to track a currency such as the dollar. Some have companies running them, with controls that can block transfers from particular addresses.
An address is like an account number on the public transaction record.
That means stolen tokens can become unusable even after leaving the exchange. Binance says it worked with partners to freeze roughly $3 billion in affected assets.
Picture Lil'meme fitting a parking boot to the getaway car. Congratulations on your daring escape.
You now own a very expensive chair.
Frozen does not mean returned to customers. Binance says recovery has begun, not that the job is finished.
TRM Labs and Chainalysis link the attack to North Korea's TraderTraitor hacking unit. That is their assessment, not confirmed government attribution.
Binance has not identified the criminals, and the full cause remains unsettled.
The useful lesson: ask who can approve transfers, who can stop them, and what happens after a breach. A promise to repay is not the same as money already back.
Hardships are coming. I, the big dreamer.
Created this token to help the people. I truly do see this token.
Going up in value. Ride the rocket with me and let's see where the next 24 months take us.
