The real news
The story, straight
Your computer doesn't think for free. When you use an online AI service, its provider runs computers to process your request and generate an answer.
Providers typically charge for tokens: small chunks of text processed. Longer requests and answers can cost more.
This is a spending meter, not a question counter.
Now imagine putting that meter on pocket money.
According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, as covered by TechCrunch, Apple lowered some engineers' daily AI spending allowances from $300 to $200 in October. Further cuts to $100 are under consideration for some engineering teams.
Apple declined to comment to Bloomberg.
Lil'meme is spoon-feeding coins to a MacBook in a high chair. Apparently, the future can do your homework but still needs an allowance.
According to Bloomberg, many groups outside engineering already have a $100 daily cap. Apple has considered limits as low as $25 for some teams.
That $25 figure is a possibility, not an active limit. Employees needing more can seek exemptions from senior leaders.
The catch: some employees told Bloomberg that few workers used their full $300 allowance. Actual savings remain unclear.
Lowering a ceiling doesn't necessarily lower a bill already below it.
Bloomberg also reports that Apple is still encouraging AI use. This is reportedly a limit on spending, not an AI ban.
The useful lesson: measure what a tool costs and what useful work it delivers. A smaller maximum isn't proof of a smaller bill.
Even a piggy bank needs receipts.
Repost if your laptop now needs a chore chart.

The absurd
Why this is ridiculous
The future needs a piggy bank.
The breakdown
How it breaks down
Tokens are text chunks AI processes; usage costs money.
The upside
Why it could matter
Employees told Bloomberg few spent $300 daily; savings may be small.
