The real news
The story, straight
Bank transfers move money through computer instructions, not bags through vault doors. Protecting buildings and protecting payments are different jobs.
Finally, a problem an even heavier door cannot solve.
Crédit Mutuel Arkéa confirmed a cyberattack that allowed fraudulent transactions. It says the incident is under control, customer assets are unaffected, and some transfers were delayed.
Decrypt reported on 4 November 2026 that ZachXBT, a pseudonymous investigator who follows public cryptocurrency transaction records, estimates an alleged theft of more than $133 million. That is his estimate, not a bank-confirmed loss.
The bank says attackers used its own account, not client accounts, to transfer money to other banking players, potentially enabling conversion into cryptocurrency. It does not confirm the reported amount, although it acknowledges the general scale.
Its final financial assessment is underway.
Our visual joke: Lil'meme fits a giant vault door to a laptop. Excellent protection against someone stealing the keyboard.
The useful distinction: a confirmed attack is not a confirmed loss estimate. The bank warns about scam messages seeking confidential information.
Open your bank's app yourself rather than trusting an unexpected message.

The absurd
Why this is ridiculous
The vault door needs a software department.
The breakdown
How it breaks down
Money moves through computer instructions. Steel doors cannot protect those.
The upside
Why it could matter
Bank says customer assets unaffected. Watch for scam messages.
