The real news
The story, straight
An AI chip performs many calculations together, helping computers learn patterns and generate answers. Ordering more chips is like hiring more kitchen staff: useful, provided they actually turn up.
On November 4, 2026, Bloomberg reported, citing unnamed people familiar with the matter, that Alibaba, Tencent, ByteDance and other Chinese buyers ordered about 6 million Nvidia RTX Pro 5500 chips. Tom's Hardware covered the report.
Buyers reportedly expect roughly 1% of those orders within 4 months.
Lil'meme brought a warehouse. The delivery brought a hide-and-seek champion.
The roughly $70 billion figure is the orders' estimated sticker value, not money Nvidia has booked as revenue. Nvidia has not published an order book.
And 1% is the near-term expectation, not the total expected forever: Bloomberg's reported estimate reaches about 700,000 chips by the end of 2027.
The RTX Pro 5500 falls below the US restriction blocking Nvidia's most advanced AI chips. But being eligible for export does not conjure factory output.
Nvidia's reported capacity estimate was at most 3 million of these cards worldwide in 2027.
Nvidia told Yonhap that US export controls and Chinese import restrictions constrain its business; it declined delivery figures. Alibaba, Tencent and ByteDance did not comment.
The useful lesson: build plans around equipment you can receive, not equipment sitting in an order spreadsheet. A shopping cart is not a computer.
Repost this before somebody tries plugging a purchase order into a server.

The absurd
Why this is ridiculous
Industrial appetite. Fun-sized delivery.
The breakdown
How it breaks down
AI chips do calculations; orders don't create factory capacity.
The upside
Why it could matter
Plan around deliveries, not shopping carts.
