DUNE'S POPCORN NOW VIBRATES

The real news

The story, straight

Popcorn had a simple job: sit in a container until somebody ate it. Dune has introduced performance anxiety.

CBC reports 2 new Dune: Part Three bucket designs: a double-sandworm tub that AMC says makes popcorn "easier to share," and an updated single-worm bucket with a working, vibrating sandworm thumper. These are separate designs.

The double bucket is not reported to vibrate.

In Dune, a thumper pounds the desert to attract giant sandworms. At the cinema, apparently, your snack also needs to summon something.

The original bucket became a meme sensation in 2024 and inspired a Saturday Night Live sketch. The sequel merchandise has answered that attention with 2 mouths or vibration.

A paper bag must feel wildly underqualified.

Why make elaborate snack containers? A cinema can sell popcorn and a souvenir in the same purchase.

The popcorn gets eaten; the container becomes something fans keep, photograph and discuss. That gives the merchandise a role beyond holding food.

CBC says the previous bucket's success seemingly encouraged increasingly outrageous designs. It does not establish that these buckets are the building's biggest profit source.

Dune: Part Three opens 18 December 2026. CBC says the merchandise reaches most Canadian Cineplex locations on 17 December, while supplies last.

The useful upside: enjoy the movie and the ridiculous design without treating a collectible as required equipment. Your popcorn does not need a fitness tracker.
