The real news
The story, straight
Software is a set of instructions a computer follows. Legacy code is older software a company still uses.
Rewriting it is like replacing a recipe while the restaurant keeps serving dinner: the new instructions still need to produce the right meal.
AI coding tools can suggest replacement instructions. Tokens are the small chunks of text these tools process.
More tokens allow more work, not guaranteed correctness. An unlimited pencil does not make every answer right.
Tom's Hardware, citing Fortune, reports that Cisco president and chief product officer Jeetu Patel is backing Padmanabhan Krishnamurthy, known as Paddy. The goal: refactor 98% of Cisco's legacy code within 24 months.
Refactoring means changing how code is organized without changing what it is supposed to do.
Patel told Fortune: “I've given him unlimited tokens because he's going to refactor code. So I'm like, you can go, you can go nuts.”
This is a target, not a reported achievement. Fortune describes a proposed 2-person team and a 4-week period to prove the approach.
The joke is the executive-scale appetite: order unlimited AI and suddenly the menu includes almost the entire software kitchen.
The useful upside is conditional. If the approach works, AI could help tackle difficult maintenance.
But generating changes and proving those changes work are different jobs. Test the recipe before serving the whole company.
Hardships are coming. I, the big dreamer.
Created this token to help the people. I truly do see this token.
Going up in value. Ride the rocket with me and let's see where the next 24 months take us.
