The story, straight
I went looking for digital gold and found a vending machine with a balance sheet.
THE REAL NEWS: CoinDesk reports Datavault AI shares closed at $0.067 on October 27, down 49.55%. The company said its June request to withdraw Bitcoin from Biconomy remained incomplete at its October 26 filing.
THE ABSURD: Scilex credited 1,309.04 BTC under a $150 million investment agreement, using transfers recorded inside the exchange rather than on Bitcoin's blockchain. Datavault later sold 491.4 BTC back to Scilex for about $40.5 million.
The card's 1,309.04 BTC is the original credit, not a verified current balance.
THE BREAKDOWN: Datavault's filing says the investment should have been recorded as money Scilex owed for shares, reducing shareholders' equity, rather than as crypto assets. The correction is expected to reduce reported assets by $92.2 million at the end of 2025 and $49 million as of June 2026.
These are revisions to reported assets at different dates, not amounts to add together.
Datavault had counted the Bitcoin balances as funding for operations and must reassess that assumption. Biconomy had not responded to CoinDesk at publication.
THE UPSIDE: No clear upside yet. The report does not establish a recovery.
I'm shaking a fictional machine, not offering a real solution.
