TRUMP OFFERS DANA WHITE MICROPHONE

The real news

The story, straight

A White House press secretary speaks for the president: explaining decisions and answering reporters' questions. Dana White runs the UFC, which stages professional fights.

Trump says he offered White the spokesperson job. Apparently, answering a tough question needed a fight promoter.

According to AP News, Trump announced the offer on social media. He also requested UFC fighters as assistants.

White, speaking to reporters in London, said he planned to fly to Washington and meet Trump on Monday.

White said, "I got a lot of jobs already." He said he would have more to discuss after the meeting.

That is not a public acceptance, and the offer should not be mistaken for an appointment.

The visual joke imagines Lil'meme arriving to ask a question and receiving treatment normally reserved for a fighter between rounds. Notebook out, mouthguard in: finally, a press briefing where the follow-up needs a cornerman.

The useful distinction is simple: offering somebody a job does not mean they have taken it. Watch what White says after the meeting, rather than treating Trump's post as a completed hire.
