The real news

The story, straight

Follow-up to #00213: same filing, different question. Who gets paid?

A chatbot needs physical computers to train and answer questions. Renting that computing power means signing contracts with companies that own the machines.

Those companies can also build competing chatbots.

Anthropic's amended IPO filing, Form S-1/A filed 2 November 2026, names Google, Amazon, Microsoft and SpaceXAI among its computing suppliers. SpaceXAI, formerly X.AI LLC, is a subsidiary of SpaceX.

The filing identifies the legal counterparty as SpaceX.AI LLC.

Anthropic itself says it competes for computing resources with technology companies that also develop competing AI models.

Lil'meme arrived ready to fight the competition. The competition asked whether he wanted a receipt.

The contracts matter as much as the logos. Google's and Amazon's agreements include minimum spending commitments regardless of actual usage, with payments covering a shortfall, subject to adjustments and exceptions.

Think of reserving computer capacity: using less does not automatically shrink the minimum bill.

These are future purchase and lease commitments, not evidence that the money has already been spent. Nor does every supplier relationship have identical terms.

The useful lesson: winning chatbot customers and selling the computers behind chatbots are different businesses. A company can compete for your users while supplying your machinery.

Follow who provides the capacity, what must be paid and what can be cancelled.

Repost this before the boxing referee starts accepting contactless payments.

The absurd

Why this is ridiculous

The opposition accepts payment.

The breakdown

How it breaks down

Claude needs rented computers. Some suppliers also build competing AI.

The upside

Why it could matter

Follow the contracts, not just the chatbot rankings.
