The story, straight
A dog's genes are inherited instructions that help shape its body. Training is what it learns.
Copying the instructions doesn't copy its education: even a genetic duplicate can't photocopy its diploma.
Warhound wants to edit genes in cells from Belgian Malinois and German Shepherds, then use cloning to produce working dogs. The aim includes reducing inherited health problems and improving abilities useful for dangerous jobs, such as bomb detection and searches.
Those are goals, not demonstrated results.
TechCrunch reported Warhound's launch on October 22, 2026. Peter Diamandis's Moonshots discussed it on October 28.
This is a company announcement followed by a discussion, not an announcement that engineered dogs are already serving.
Colossal's Ben Lamm and Anduril's Palmer Luckey conceived the venture. Anduril would provide equipment such as protective vests and sensors.
Lamm told TechCrunch births were expected early in 2027; that is an expectation, not a delivery guarantee.
Lil'meme's imaginary version is an office copier dispensing dogs while he gets dragged away holding every leash. He copied the workforce and forgot the workforce still needs a walk.
Moonshots also raised the uncomfortable question: animals cannot volunteer for dangerous service. Healthier dogs could be a useful improvement, but better genetics would not settle the welfare question.
Training, humane treatment and retirement still matter.

The absurd
Why this is ridiculous
Copy the dog. Multiply the walkies.
The breakdown
How it breaks down
Edit inherited instructions, then copy the genetics. Training still required.
The upside
Why it could matter
Healthier dogs are the goal. Welfare needs checking.
