BAGEL SHOP GETS A SWAMP WALK-IN

The real news

The story, straight

A closed shop means nobody is taking orders. It does not mean wildlife can read the opening hours.

WWAY reports that a roughly 3-foot alligator crawled into Bagel Dock Express in Southport, North Carolina, on Thursday, 29 October. The shop was closed.

Its surveillance video captured owner Jesse Driscoll's startled reaction as the animal moved into the storefront.

Driscoll told WWAY he had been distracted by the installation of a new oven. A kitchen upgrade is stressful enough without nature adding a floor-level surprise inspection.

Here is the useful context: alligators are native to North Carolina's coast. Their presence in the region is normal; their presence inside a bagel shop is the unusual part.

The footage documents an animal entering a business, not ordering breakfast. There is no basis for claiming it bought, ate or was served a bagel.

Driscoll called 911. WWAY says Southport Police and Animal Protective Services safely removed the alligator.

The shop reported no injuries.

Our imagined Lil'meme is scrambling onto the display case, suddenly concerned he resembles the everything bagel. That is the joke, not something the surveillance footage shows.

The upside is refreshingly simple: the animal was safely removed, and nobody was hurt. Give wildlife space and let trained responders handle the exit.

Your apron is not protective equipment.
