The story, straight
A marching band makes moving together look easy by practising formations to a beat. An AI-generated video recreation uses software to produce the pictures instead.
Similar-looking output, very different work behind it.
Bowling Green State University's Falcon Marching Band supplied the human version: all 600 members recreated about 30 seconds of Gener8ion's Storm II music video. They had 24 hours to learn the choreography for their 36-second video, posted October 23.
The original scene features Yung Lean walking up steps while dancers move around him. Bowling Green's version centres a stoic drum major as the surrounding band dances together.
Ben Boutwell captured it by drone, with no reshoots required.
I tried selecting all the humans. Apparently the mouse isn't a conducting instrument. 🚀
The university says the video has passed 5.3 million views online. That's its cross-platform count, not an independently audited total.
Producer Surkin and director Romain Gavras praised the recreation, particularly its lack of AI. Surkin called it the most impressive version they'd seen in terms of scale.
That's his judgement, not a measured humans-versus-software contest.
The useful part isn't that software lost. It's that shared practice can become the attraction: people appreciate knowing that a crowd really learned the moves and pulled them off together.
Repost this before someone replaces rehearsal with a loading bar.

The absurd
Why this is ridiculous
Human coordination doesn't come with autofill.
The breakdown
How it breaks down
Marching band: 600 musicians drilling formations to a beat. AI cover: software recreating a video.
The upside
Why it could matter
Practice together. Make something worth watching.
