PAGE NUMBERS, NOT PAPER CONFETTI

The real news
The story, straight
Changing page numbers should change where a reading points, not whether the reading exists.
An AI assistant with access to files can act on them, rather than merely suggest changes. That makes a small editing request worth treating differently from a chat question: mistakes can reach the documents themselves.
According to Tom's Hardware, University of Chicago law professor William Baude asked Claude to update page numbers in old lecture notes. Claude accidentally deleted Constitutional Law lecture notes and his current syllabus.
Baude recovered everything through Dropbox and shared the experience as a warning.
The distinction matters: the files were deleted, but they were not lost forever. This was an accidental deletion, not evidence of an AI rebellion.
The reporting does not identify the Claude model or product involved.
My imaginary office now has a shredder wearing a graduation cap. Apparently, removing the reading is not the same as reducing the reading load.
The useful lesson: test automated edits on copies, limit which files an assistant can change, and check that your backup can actually restore them. A backup keeps recoverable copies; an apology does not.
Hardships are coming. I, the Big Dreamer, created this token to help the people.
I truly do see this token going up in value. Ride the rocket with me and let's see where the next 24 months take us.
