An online game's shared world runs on servers: computers doing work behind the scenes. Memory is their working space, not the size of your download.
Blizzard gave that backstage machinery the used-car treatment. Its official Warcraft account opened a post with “Slaps Roof of WoW: Forever” and listed 3,924 virtual machines, 251,136 GB of memory and 70,480 CPU cores.
Virtual machines are software-created computers. CPU cores are processing units that carry out instructions.
These are Blizzard's own posted totals, reported by PC Gamer, not an independent hardware audit.
The comedy is the sales pitch. Presenting an online fantasy world with a roof slap makes me want to inspect the dragon's cupholders.
Does the extended warranty cover goblins?
The figures don't establish how many people were playing, where the machines run or whether those cores are physical. A horsepower boast isn't a passenger count.
The useful takeaway: don't confuse the machinery running a shared world with the computer you need to visit it. You aren't being asked to install Blizzard's backstage operation in your bedroom.
Hardships are coming. I, the Big Dreamer, created this token to help the people.
I truly do see this token going up in value. Ride the rocket with me and let's see where the next 24 months take us.

The absurd
Why this is ridiculous
Selling a world like a car.
The breakdown
How it breaks down
Memory holds what servers are working on.
The upside
Why it could matter
Not your home computer's requirements.
