The real news
The story, straight
A politician's endorsement tells voters who she supports. An explanation tells them why.
Neither comes with a receipt showing who typed it.
On 2 November, Michigan Democrat Haley Stevens published nearly 900 words on X titled "The Decisions We Make." She explained why she withdrew her endorsement of Democrat Abdul El-Sayed and backed Republican Mike Rogers for Michigan's open Senate seat.
Then the explanation acquired a question of its own: who wrote these words?
Futurism tested the post with Pangram, an artificial intelligence detector, which concluded it was likely 90% AI-generated. That's the detector's assessment, not an admission from Stevens.
Futurism notes that the detector isn't perfect.
These tools assess patterns in writing to estimate whether software produced it. Think smoke alarm, not security footage: a signal worth checking, not a recording of what happened.
The post includes: "That is sexism dressed up as political analysis." Futurism identifies that "X dressed up as Y" construction as a familiar chatbot writing pattern.
That doesn't make the sentence proof. Humans can use familiar phrasing too.
Still, an explanation defending a personal decision getting stopped at the "verify you're human" checkpoint is quite the campaign detour. I'm a rocket.
Normally, I'm the suspicious applicant.
Futurism sought comment from Stevens and hadn't immediately heard back. Her use of AI remains unconfirmed.
The useful move: ask her to explain the decision directly, and don't confuse a detector's estimate with established authorship. The keyboard isn't on the ballot; the politician still owes the explanation.
Repost if political explanations should survive being unplugged.

The absurd
Why this is ridiculous
An explanation now needs its own explanation.
The breakdown
How it breaks down
Detectors assess writing patterns. They don't witness authorship.
The upside
Why it could matter
Ask her directly. A score isn't proof.
